Investigating the Relationship between Centrality of Religiosity, Instrumental Harm, and Impartial Beneficence through the Lens of Moral Foundations

A growing body of work suggests that religiosity is typically associated with deontological or non-utilitarian moral judgments. However, recent conceptualizations utilitarian psychology show instrumental harm just one (negative) dimension utilitarianism. In the new two-dimensional model psychology, impartial beneficence second (positive) current study, we investigated relationship between centrality and utilitarianism (its two dimensions) among adults (N = 401). We also examined whether five foundations serve as mediators this relationship. found was directly indirectly (through care foundation) related to beneficence. Although direct effect on insignificant, indirect effects through purity authority foundations. The results suggest more complex than previously assumed.
